For the fourth time now creative and innovative social projects are being rewarded with the SozialMarie, with prizes totalling 42,000 Euros. Submissions are being accepted until 15 February 2008.
The SozialMarie prize will be awarded for the fourth time this year; it
is an award for innovative social projects that wants to stay innovative
itself. Beyond financial recognition the prize wants to put the award winning
projects into public limelight. The invitation for submission and, even
more, the choice of the winning projects and also the award ceremony do
not happen according to political criteria. Nevertheless, they doubtlessly
will emit political signals. Political, as well as scientific discourse
about social innovation is to be stimulated.
The invitation for submissions is directed at project leaders from the field
of civil society (socioeconomic initiatives, NGOs, NPOs,
associations), public administration and private
enterprises.
Submission of projects from Austria and bordering countries will be considered.
For practical reasons, projects from outside Austria should not be more
than 300km (as the crow flies) away from Vienna.
15 prizes with a total value of 42,000 Euros
Also in 2008 excellent social projects which convince through innovative
power and creativity are getting the chance to receive one of in total 15
prizes valued at 15,000 Euros (1st prize), 10,000 Euros (2nd prize), 5,000
Euros (3rd prize) as well as 12 prizes for 1,000 Euros each.
The responsible body for the SozialMarie is the “Unruhe” private
trust. It is their goal to annually award innovative and creative projects
with the SozialMarie and, above and beyond the financial recognition, to
put the awarded projects in the public spotlight, thereby creating movement
for further social campaigns. The invitation for submissions and the award
ceremony should stimulate social and scientific discourse about social innovation.
Expert jury evaluates innovative power
In April a jury of experts will decide over the innovative power of the projects. They will look at the projects in terms of project idea, access to target group and the realisation of the project as well as the perceived image from the outside world.
Entry conditions
Condition of entry is a fully completed entry form which must be in German

Projects should be tried and tested and have a future, i.e. still be going
on.
The final date for application entries for the SozialMarie 2008 is 15 February
2008.

Exciting ceremony award on 1 Mai 2007

acting initiatives and groups on 1 May 2007 in Vienna.
