On 1 May, for the 15th time, 15 social innovations have been awarded the SozialMarie at ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna.
Inherited poverty is still cause for lifelong discrimination. The first prize, endowed with 15,000 euro, went to The Omama Project. Women who live in Roma-settlements receive training in early childhood education methods. Subsequently, as Omamas, they support mothers in the settlements to develop motor and cognitive skills of the small children.
Cooperative for the Common Good was delighted about the second prize (10,000 euro). It stands for an alternative economy and offers financial and educational services for the common good.
Social Rental Agency – On the Way out of the Housing Crisis in Hungary was honored with the third prize (5,000 euro). The Agency mediates between homeless people and municipal, as well as private apartments and creates affordable tenancy.
Three projects in Austria were awarded a 2,000 Euro Prize.

About the project
Since 2006, SozialMarie has been working with active honorary patrons who accompany one of their chosen award-winning or, from this year on, nominated projects. Their support is reflected in professional, financial, and public support for the selected project. In 2019, Michael Köhlmeier, one of the most important authors in Austria, and János Czafrangó, Hungarian economist and CSR expert, Petra Hubačová, manager at Business Link in Prague and Sandra Pázmán Tordová, co-founder and editor of Slovak street paper Nota Bene, take over active honorary patronage.
SozialMarie was awarded for the first time 15 years ago. Watch our 15 Years SozialMarie anniversary film to see what social innovation means for us.
Read more about the winning and nominated projects in our SozialMarie Brochure. Photos of the Award Ceremony can be found in our gallery and on our Facebook-page, where we also publish media reports and information on the winning projects. We are happy if you like us on Facebook and YouTube!
