Kihívás

Mainstream media is increasingly producing fast, superficial content derived from PR rather than journalism. This is eroding media literacy and critical thinking, particularly among young people. In-depth cultural coverage has almost disappeared, with non-institutional culture being especially at risk. Media literacy continues to be neglected in education, leaving young people vulnerable to information overload and hindering their ability to participate meaningfully in society.

Ötlet

Kulturpunkt is a media platform established by the independent cultural scene it serves. It is founded on the belief that culture plays a vital role in creating a fairer and more inclusive society. It provides daily coverage of cultural production and activist initiatives, offering critical, in-depth perspectives on underrepresented topics. It also fosters critical thinking and civic engagement by working with young people and providing educational resources.

Szereplők

An editorial team coordinates the newsroom and develops editorial direction, supported by over 100 external contributors from a variety of professional and generational backgrounds. Alongside collaborators handling dissemination and technical support, a key element is the inclusion of new voices. Young authors are brought in through an educational programme offering mentored work and their first professional media opportunities. This ensures the long-term renewal of the author base.

Hatás

The project increases the visibility of independent culture, encourages critical discussion and supports the voices of young and underrepresented people. Educational programmes establish a knowledge infrastructure that is sustainable and exists beyond market-oriented media. Impact is assessed through diversity of contributors, long-term engagement, community feedback, and continuity of work, with a focus on making a lasting contribution to the public interest rather than on short-term metrics.

Átemelhetőség

Although they are rooted in Croatia's independent cultural scene, the core approaches are transferable. These include understanding culture and media as public goods, integrating critical reflection and education as tools for empowerment, and the mentored inclusion of new voices. These approaches have already been tested in a European online pilot. Similarly, formats that make complex topics accessible to diverse audiences can be adapted to other local and regional contexts.
