O čem projekt je?
The Traisen is a retired motorised railway ship that was operated by the DDSG Blue Danube company. The ship was restored as part of the events celebrating Linz as the 2009 European Capital of Culture. Over the course of two years, young and older unemployed people learned from employed and voluntary experts and from one another on the ship. As a team, they renovated and improvised with the result that the ship can now be used again as in the past or as an event location. Once again, the ship has become a crowd-puller. As a cultural institution and an event location, the Traisen tells the stories of people who were at risk of losing their links to society because they were unemployed. Following the formal handover of the ship in the spring of 2009, the Traisen is now part of the programme of events for Linz as the 2009 European Capital of Culture. As part of the Pixel Hotel architectural project, guests can also stay overnight on the Traisen.
Hodnocení poroty
The jury praised the “attractive concept of taking an old ship, which is a symbol of something that has served its time and is no longer of any use, and refloating it”. The project was awarded a prize of €1000 in 2008.
