The wool cycle begins in Elpida, a public benefit corporation that supports the seniors in an active life. We collect old wool and send it to our knitting grandmas. Each has a different style and each pair of Socks is therefore original. Grandmas get an extra revenue to their pension and earnings from the sales of Socks return to Elpida Center to support other activities for seniors.

Several interweaving strands work together to make up this project. Traditions, handicraft and artisanry, and do-it-yourself arouse more and more interest. The recycling of already used things is gaining in glamour. Exchange between generations is again becoming more respectable. And beyond all that, the knitting of socks gives rise to memories, both on the side of the knitting grandmother and on the side of the buyers. That these memories have been made audible and visible, in the form of filmed stories, and that they can be passed on to others via YouTube, that is the additional and innovative benefit that the label “Socks from Grandma” guarantees.
