O čemu je riječ?
The Styrian borough of Kapfenberg set up the “Future for Everyone” project in 2006 as a strategy against “new poverty”, which can no longer be avoided merely by having a certain educational level or professional status. The project, which is divided into six thematic work groups and backed by its own budget, has been able to improve the living situation of all the borough’s inhabitants. The results implemented to date range from a public breakfast where the topic of a basic income was discussed, to a social fund financed by donations and a benefit card that allows low-income inhabitants to buy food at discounted prices. A forum for swapping furniture and baby clothes is currently being set up. Based on cooperation with key figures from politics, the local authorities and civil society, this project is exemplary in implementing a socio-political mission.
Ocjena žirija
In 2009, the jury awarded the project second prize for its “successful combination of top-down and bottom-up activities, as well as material aid, preventative redistribution and sensitising approach.”
