What is it about?

The Next Door Family project is realized since 2004 and it involved more than 6000 people and helped many families to live in “friendly neighbourhoods”. Once a year at the same time and day in a whole Czech Republic a number of families enjoy the special common lunch, during which they get know with the family living in the same city or area! This simple innovative way of integration of immigrant was verified during last 10 years as maximally effective and furthemore very pleasant!

Appreciation of the Jury

The idea is simple but may seem unachievable: ‘Next Door Family’ is about people from another area of the world but living in the same region having lunch together at one of the family’s homes and the event takes place all across the Czech Republic at the same time. Some 900 families have taken up the invitation. These organised gatherings would probably not take place otherwise but have a wider-reaching impact: in half of all cases, things do not end with just one lunch. A documentary film is spreading the idea and the media are reporting on this kind of Czech-migrant interaction. We would like to see this planned expansion of the project extend to other countries, including Austria!
